“ To make a start more swift than weighty,
Hail Muse.”
- Vikram Seth, The Golden Gate
Manifold are the aims behind this BLOG,
Footage, first of all, to flow free and ample,
For the studs of H-Mezz, a remarkable sample,
For the denizens of NT Hall, temple of fun,
And for Jacobeans in memory, united as one,
Done that I am with the peoples of my alma mater,
To other aspects does the mind now cater,
Humour, churned through the millstones of life,
To music of the big city, voiced in peace and strife,
Cricket, philosophy and Akky Kumar’s antics,
Books, theatre, life, presumptuous critiques.
Anon, a lofty issue, a modest perspective,
Merely humble opinion, no fell invective,
Thus do I foresee this account to proceed,
With glances at life, or at a fair deed,
Or narratives of people, all meaning well,
Sometimes droll prose, sometimes doggerel …

Glad you like golden Gate. It is
A wonderful book that covers
A thousand themes: Sons and lovers,
Men and women, Scrabble and chess,
Bombs and chips, and self-criticism.
All this with warmth and witticism!
It's a masterpiece, nothing less.
Is it prose or verse ? I cannot tell,
For the lines are fluid, tho' they rest
Twice a page. With Seth at his best,
I am sated. None can write so well.
Some my seth-inspired stuff.
